Can MAC users open PGN files?

One of my students was having difficulties opening PGN files on his Mac. Has anyone else encountered this problem? If so, how did you work around it?

I don't think opening the files is as much a problem as finding software that is compatible with mac. I don't really know of any standalone chess programs that are compatible with mac since I'm a windows user.

Have him try viewing them on a chess website analysis board. He should be able to upload the PGN.

PGN files are just text, so any text editor can open them, if your student doesn't have some other chess GUI to load them in.

ChessX from sourceforge is free, and MAC OS-X compatible.

Well they can always open it here on chess.com

Just go to https://www.chess.com/analysis and choose load and then paste the content of the pgn

As other users have correctly pointed out, this site is a great resource for your students to open PGNs and then analyse etc. Stockfish has a lightweight app for macOS as does scid (much better though installation may be a little technical for your student).

hi

banirban

When I load a pgn file here on chess.com, it only shows one game. Might someone be able to help with how I can move to the next game ?

As far as I'm aware, the Analysis Board only supports one game at a time. The insert diagram for blogs/posts supports multiple games.
