Can white avoid a draw in chess?

While following Anand's sequence of draws on the Corus Tournament, i was wondering whether someone playing as black can force a draw by just repeating white's moves (say a player that just needs a draw to win a big match).

I figure that with white's first-move advantage, he would be able to check black at some point, which would make him do a different move, but would that be enough to force a win?

obviously you cant just repeat the moves of the opponent and get a draw. Think of moves like the queen moving into an open space undefended how could black mirror that move without losing the queen. mirroring the other player would lose every time.
