My guess is that there shouldn't be a bishop on c1 at all. As you notice, it destroys the whole tactic because of 2. Bxg5. It also makes the position very materially unbalanced, which is unlikely.

Loomis is right I think, search a database for the position without a Bishop and you might find it to confirm. I would write to the publisher to let them know.
