Carlsen blunders today

He's unbeatable. He's had Nakamura for lunch, repeatedly*, and boy haven't we in the States all kept kinda quiet and depressed about that. So much for a US shot at the title. Nakamura and Kamsky should shift gears and try working as a comedy duo for awhile.

I know the Mag lost to Fabio at some St Louis tournament but that's a tourney, friends...crowns only come through matches.

Maybe that blunder was intentional, meant to throw people off ;)

There was nothing in my post that even vaguely warranted this kind of sarcasm.  Carlsen making a blunder in a slow game that looks like one of my speed chess blunders warrants a "wow".  Suggest you take your snarky comments elsewhere.

That post wasn't meant for you, it was meant for everyone in general who might find it impossible that someone of Carlsen's caliber could do something as dumb as blunder a bishop like that.  It's surprising how many people think that GMs, not just Carlsen, are immune to mistakes that an amateur would make.  Yes, they are stronger and would probably crush most of us fairly easily, but that doesn't mean they won't make mistakes. And other grandmasters have embarassed themselves in similar ways.  Examples: Vladimir Kramnik missing a mate-in-one, Carlsen vs Anand matches (double blunder in game 6, 2014 match; Anand's fatal blunder in game 9, 2013 match), and Nigel Short losing a simultaneous game against an FM playing the Elephant Gambit (where you could argue that the result did stem from the opening and Short's handling of it).  So yes, Carlsen made a big mistake at a very high-profile tournament with everyone watching.  Did he lose deservedly?  Yes.  Okay, now let's move on.

Good player but not cute. Or hot.

But dorky in a sexy way.

Yeah, maybe Wojstzatek is a better player than the past his prime Anand... That IS funny, huh?

its actually an understandable blunder. Its one of those positions where it jsut seems impossible for black to proceed. Every move i consider turns out very bad.

I will be the first in line to say that Carlsen is a great player and that great players will occasionally make blunders like this, but what gets me are the long line of fans who want to defend their favorite player by trying to pretend it wasn't really a blunder, or that it was a miscalculation, or (in this case) that the blunder was unavoidable.

Of course it was avoidable. If it was unavoidable, then the "blunder" would have actually been the prior move that put Carlsen in this unavoidable position.

I was watching the game and Qe6 was not in the list of top 3 moves for black.

Carlsen is currently the World Champion and the top ranked player in the world. He has a tremendous amount going for him in the world of chess. We don't need to create some sort of cult of infallibility around him (or anyone else).

Funnier still was the way he loudly pounded out Qe6 as though it was some boss move.

Magnus blunders will be his last year as a world champion, Fibiano Caruana is going to beat Carlsen in a match, Fibiana is playing better chess than Magnus. Magnus love in sport, maybe he can make a living in sports.
