I think Carlsen would have more productive things than stirring up internet (non) drama.
Carlsen choses "DannyTheDonkey" as his username on another popular site.
lol chess.com is scared of losing players to this other site huh? No wonder, they offer way more than this site in terms of quality, responsive staff and features. All free.
But banning the name really only makes for bad advertisement for yourselves
@david if you're that worried about free advertising, just make your site better so nobody will want to go to other people's sites, not censor people
This site is like the chess website representation of the flaws of current capitalism

Bestkidinschool: "Hey chesscom, improve your site by not censoring other site names!"(feedback)
Chesscom: "We always welcome feedback!"
Also Chesscom in the exact same sentence: "No way we are going to uncensor other site names."
Oh the irony!
seriously, why do you care so much?
Because it's a Chess.com policy. If you'd like to get it changed, speak to @jdcannon - he's the Staff member leading the moderator team. Good luck with that!

hence the policy.
no, the only reason why you have this policy is because you want to make as much money as possible. You know it, I know it, everyone knows it. It's not so bad, everybody loves some money, but at least be honest about it and don't come up with some silly reasons that no one believes you anyway ![]()
[Please ask your question about the other site on that site's forums - I'm sure they'd be happy to answer you.

Chess.com welcomes feedback, but that doesn't always mean that we agree with it
It's like the examples parents use with the teens facing peer pressure: "But everyone else is doing it" / "If everyone else jumped off a cliff, would you jump too?". We value the input into our decision making processes, but in the end it's Chess.com management's decisions.
I disagree with the assertion that it's just about the money, but unfortunately that's generally a position that people adopt and refuse to move from, despite whatever evidence may be presented to the contrary; it's one of the reasons that Chess.com has decided that they will deal with it by not getting into those sorts of comparisons in the first place, hence the policy.
@rjbuffchix In light of the recent occurrences with your account, your ratings have been reset to 1200. You would also be well advised to heed the Support team's caution about the way you have been speaking lately.

you presented no evidence at all that it's not about the money. you don't care at all about the integrity of this forum, just look at the "secret of chess thread", it's full of insults and no moderator cares. But if someone mentions [the other site], it gets censored immediately - that's a very good indicator that it's just about money ![]()

Hi @david, thanks for the job you do. As for what you said, I'm a little confused. I liked my hot sauce devil 666 rating and wasn't ever playing Rated with it. So I'm not sure why I was not allowed to keep it. It also raises the question of whether I *am* now allowed to play Rated again. Is it considered sandbagging for me to play Rated, even though 1200 is what chess.com wants me back at? I want to be sure before I dare to try, as I feel I'll get banned on the spot. Seems like a witch hunt or something here ![]()
As for speaking, I replied to Support's e-mail already but maybe you could help me as well. Specifically, I don't understand what I'm saying that is frowned upon. For instance, I have not threatened anyone, made racist/$3xual comments, et cetera. Is it the other guy who has imitated my account? Do people just get mad about losing to me and go on to report me baselessly? I want to get clarity so that I can keep enjoying this site, as I know from this topic and others that it is the only chess site online

Chess.com always welcomes feedback about how we can improve - that doesn't need to be done with reference to how another site does it, though.
And just because someone claims another site operates in a particular way doesn't mean that's true; sites also change over time, so what was true once may not be true any more. Same with Chess.com - hence the policy.
Cheers!
