That's pretty cool.
I liked because of the beautiful Sharapova. And ok, I like Magnus, he is really talented.
Now we know why he is dropping in rating points. He is spending alll his time playing himself!!! lol.
Sell out.
How-so? It's called "making a living". Not like he's demeaning the game, himself, or anyone else. He has celebrity status (rightly earned, being among and quantitatively as it stands toyear positioned _at_ the top of a discipline, with youth still on his side), so `might as well reap some tangible real-world gains from it!
I'm sure that Karpov would never appear in a commercial.
Because the soviet regime should take out 90% of his income.

The kid's already rich. Shilling for a car company is just being plain greedy.

So you decide what's the limit? You make 100.000 $ then stop? Or is it 5000? Or 1.000.000? Or 263? Tell us, don't be shy.

He has amassed millions, so he yes is at least somewhat rich. However, he is far from "filthy rich" (the point after which any humane person _ought_ to donate some of it on a philanthropic scale in his lifetime to better society via whatever donation vessels he decides most effective at positively affecting the world as he deems appropriate, since he wields then more power from ownership of monetary capital than from which he or his closest~deserving framily will ever directly gain, not necessarily till the multi-billions[2015USD] if you ask me), below which thresh-hold I see no disgrace in grabbing for some extra money worth one's time so long as the nature of acquiring such revenue does not compromise one's-own personal values (and most especially if it happens to specifically coincide). Greed is normal and, in the absence of motives driven by unethical behavior or downright immoral actions, quite healthy and overall rather beneficial to society as a whole.
The point where the actions would become annoyingly distasteful (in my book) would become not from grabbing for wealth, but in trying to use it to "flex", e.g. in the vain of many rap-'artists' or bratty Justin bitch-ass Bieber. (He may have matured some in the past few months, though beyond a few publcity pr-attempts I doubt it. I don't seek him out though).
Because Carlsen is already a well-known figure. I think this is great publicity for chess. I'm sure Carlsen will do good things for chess with his money at some point, too. He loves the game. Let's just hope he hasn't forgotten how to play it :-) I'm sure his sponsor deals stipulate something about staying at the top.
Hey, I think it's a dumb thing for the kid to do. You Gordon Geckos think it's great, that's fine, I guess. But, when people at the highest level are pushing luxury cars and sugary energy drinks I think it makes chess look bad.
Who knows, maybe if you'd get the opportunity to make some money, you'd quit drinking. Also, it's pointless to call him a kid in a funny attempt to make him look dumb instead of you.
