Or it might be So-and-So.

Will Giri ever be World Champion? Will he perhaps stand a chance against the great Carlsen in a few years time?

Everyone is a joke compared to Magnus.

I really want to see a match between Komodo 8 using Tianhe 2 as hardware vs. Magnus Carlsen.  It would be Kasparov vs. Deep Blue all over again (which was a genuine upset in that Kasparov lost despite being the better player.) Tianhe 2 has potential for quadrillions of calculations per second and the core cap on Komodo 8 is far too low so it'd be an uncapped version optimized for Tianhe 2.  Could such a machine defeat Carlsen?  Perhaps we'll never know.

i think either naka caruana or anand. most likely anand because he is world #2 currently

Nakamura has a poor record against Carlsen, and Carlsen can draw against him on demand while he made Anand look like a joke in the previous world championship matches.  Caruana has the best shot, but I don't think he could take Magnus.  Then again Kramnik beat Kasparov in a championship match so upsets are certainly possible, just unlikely by definition.

Anand is Carlsen's next WCC opponent

Deep Blue barely beat Kasparov so of course Magnus would absolutely thrash an Iphone 6.

That would be hilarious! A third time with Anand, you never know it could happen: their last match and no one predicted Anand to play against Carlsen and it happen.

Hopefully Caruana.

Hopefully Hikaru. He has the best chance.

would be RIDICULOUS to give Anand three chances in a row.

Naka doesn't fare too well agains the Norwegian.

give Anand 3 chances? he is not given world champions games if he qualify through the candinates he has deserved to play Carlsen.

Give Anand a third chance? If he earns it then it is not given.

Nakamura has very bad results against Carlsen, but he has shown he has the potential to be dangerous. I would love to see a Carlsen-Nakamura WCC match. It might be an upset or a complete disaster for Nakamura, but it would be fun to watch.

We have three tournaments that will tell a lot this year. Norway, Sinquefield, and London. Ten of the top twelve players in all three events!

Carlsen, Caruana, Nakamura, Anand, Topalov, So, Grischuk, Giri, Aronian, Vachier-Lagrave

I don't think Caruana is that likely, he's not doing THAT well in tournaments nowadays. Anand seems quite likely, especially after his nice showing in the Gashimov Memorial. Nakamura is also quite possible, Kramnik also. I don't think it's too realistic for So to win the candidates; neither Grischuk. Aronian is not doing to well the past year, so not him either.

In all sincerity, it will be me.

(Just joking; I think it's Nakamura or Anand).

We are not talking about who is most likely to win the title from Magnus; I agree with  you that it's not likely that Naka will win the title from him, at least right now, but I think it's quite realistic that he will be Carlsen's next opponent.

Anand is the favorite to win the candidates tournament right now. He is #2 in the live ratings, and he is also the only player that is assured of playing in the candidates tournament so far.

Naka fares quite well against everyone in the world excluding Carlsen.

It would be interesting to see the list of people who played in the Candidates.

Caruana or Anand (if he plays candidates).

Caruana hasn't  been doing that well in tournaments reecently, he has dropped below 2800. Unless we see some a "sinqfield" in the candidates I'm pretty sure he won't win. But of course, it's possible.

Here are my top three candidates in order:

  1. Nakamura
  2. Anand
  3. Caruana

On a second thought, So is actually quite possible, he's been finishing right behind Carlsen in several tournaments now.

I'll add him as No.4 to my list.
