Changing the game line numbers in ChessBase FYI

Sort:

I wanted to sort the games in a database for an eBook.  I found that the sort function in ChessBase merely puts the games in chronological order.   My solution was to open the database and sort the games with a mouse or the copy function and then to copy the whole sorted database and open a new (empty) database and paste the sorted games into the database.   This preserves any arbitrary sort.   After checking that the numbering was correct I deleted the original database.

great...I am no on that level yet.

BTW how do I change the time from 15 minutes to regular time? I was winning about half a dozen game but lost all of them because of time...that is terrible...

I have a question. I keep my personal database with 2000 games. I would like to sort the games by multiple parameters before fixing the sort order. Is it possible to sort 1. By date, 2. By tournament and 3. By round, all in one sort?

Thank you in advance for your answer,

Clicking on each category---tournament, date and round---changes the sort order. I think if you click on round then tournament, the games will be sorted by date as that is the default. Then highlight and copy all the games and paste them to a new database with this sorted order. Check that the new database is sorted correctly then delete the old database.

This response is for Paladinron:

After clicking on the "Play" on the far left, another "Play" appears on the sub menu and a dialogue to change the time appears. Hope that helps.

lapin, Clicking round puts all 1st round games in line, then clicking tournament results in an alphabetical order of tournaments regardless of date, then clicking date puts them back in date order regardless of tournament and round. Doesn't Chessbase have a multi-sort so I can have my tournaments together from earliest to latest regardless of when I entered them?

Thanks,

tournaments together in date order.

I have found that technical support for ChessBase, at times, insufficient; I have been using ChessBase for over 10 years and have been "learning by doing". You can click the category that does the best job of sorting and then manually finish sorting by moving the games up or down with the mouse. With 2000 games this can be laborious but I don't see an easier way. This was what I did with the games in Timothy Taylor's book, "Beating the King's Indian and Gruenfeld". I put the games in the order in the book and then copied the games and pasted them to a new blank database which put the games in the new numerical order.
