Charles Dickens and chess

I decided to search any connection between the famous victorian novelist Charles Dickens and chess. And yes, I found something in an article from a website on chess history

My new interest in Dickens was born yesterday. Some years ago I found several antique business cards (carte de visite) from famous people like Livingstone, Charles Darwin and one from Charles Dickens.

This last one was signed by the author. I checked in internet the value of such cards and could not believe my eyes!!

Unfortunately I didn’t find any card from a chess player. I have one from Victor Hugo, and from different members  of different royal families, and one from US president Grant.
And no, they are not signed, which is a pity, as such a card for example from Grant was have a similar value to the Dickens’ card (8 to 10 k US dollars).

Did you ever find a carte de visite from a famous chess player?
The only signature from a famous players I had
was from Alekhine from one of his books (limited edition). I sold it already to a collector.

Hey my friend, those business cards are very cool.  I did a quick google search but didn't see any chess player business cards either.  I did find something you might be interested in though, so I will send you a private message in a moment.  thumbup

I find from time to time such cards I flea markets,  but mostly from unknown people.  I am still hoping to find such a card from a guy like Capablanca or Rubinstein.

If you find a card from Capablanca my jealousy will be monumental, as he is my favorite player of all time.  I swear, you guys in Europe find the most amazing things in second-hand shops, flea markets, etc.  I have never found anything like that where I live.  My only great thing from where I live in Oregon, on the west coast USA, was the chance to meet Arthur Dake while he was still alive.  He is the only ever GM from Oregon, and actually won a game off Alekhine at the height of his power.  An acquaintance of mine, Casey Bush, wrote a biography of GM Dake that I bought when it was originally released.  I think one may still find used copies floating around sometimes.
