what is chess 960 exactly?? It is like you random pieces around the board and trying to checkmate your opponent with a bunch of random pieces laying around the board??
It cuts out opening theory.... All the pieces except for pawns are scrambled on the back rank.... The pawns are where they normally are...

It is called 960 because there are 960 different combinations of pieces on the first rank from which position the game can start.
