Buy "Learn Chess--a complete course" by Alexander & Beach. On Amazon a used copy can be had for pennies. It may be the only book you need.
Work your chess.com "tactics trainer". I'd recommend doing about 35 a day for about 2 weeks. Then do about 3-5 a day, EVERY day, for the rest of your life.
Remember the quote by GM Richard Teichmann
"Chess is 99% tactics"
Also I recommend watching chess videos. I especially like Dan Heisman's videos on ICC, you have to pay a few dollars for membership to watch the vids but it is well worth it.
I suggest you get Chess Tactics for Champion by Polgar and Winning Chess Strategy by Seirawan. With the Seirawan book, you will learn chess concepts like what position favors a bishop vs knight, pawn structures, lead in development, king power, rook power, attacking the king etc. The strategy book by Seirawan will also introduce you to great strategic players like Karpov, Petrosian and Akiba etc.
The Polgar Tactics book will teach you well the tactical motifs like pin, fork, skewer, removing the guard etc. It also has mates problems.
The Silman strategy bood is also a good book, but might not be appropriate at your level.
Hey i have a elo on chess.com of 1134. I have been playing for 3 months and i want to improve my game to the next level. I have the book "Logical Chess" but i would like another one since "logical chess" goes through the games but doesnt give you other advice. From my rating and experience what would you recommend a player of my stature? Two books i have heard to get were "My System" and "How to Reassess your Chess" What would you guys recommend?
Re: The Opening - Follow the Opening Principles
1. Control the center
2. Develop your pieces toward the center
3. Castle
4. Connect your rooks (move your queen)
Re: Middlegame
Chess Master vs. Chess Amateur(descriptive) by Euwe and Meiden, Winning Chess Strategies(algebraic) by Seirawan
Re: Endgame
Silmans Complete Endgame Course
I think your best bet is right here on Chess.com. You get more information on this site than you'll ever get from a book. I have only been playing a year, and I purchased a lot of chess books on kindle, books are great, but they can't beat the videos. Good luck to you.

Did someone pay you to say this?
I wouldn't recommend neither "My system" nor "Reassess your chess". I have both books and I don't think that they are written for players with a rating around 1100/ 1200. The disadvantages of My System are (1) Nimzowitsch' typical language, (2) the advanced topics covered -requiring a solid basis- and (3) the lack of exercises to practice what you learned. There are quite a number of annotated games in the book, but you have Logical Chess already and that book does a MUCH better job when it comes to explaining tactical and strategical concepts and the reason behind the moves.
"Reassess Your Chess" is good. I'm working my way through that book right now, including the accompanying workbook. The textbook alone has lots of exercises, but all the exercises included require an estimated rating (provided by Silman) of 1400 all the way up to 2000+, which might make it a little advanced in this stage. Sure you can try, but if I were you I would browse through that book in a bookstore first before spending any money on it.
Since you are a premium member, why not focus your attention on Chess Mentor lessons and chess videos? You have unlimited access! Especially the Chess Mentor lessons can teach you a great deal and a huge number of lessons are composed by Silman himself. So no need to by his books to get his insights and instructional value! Chess Mentor also shows the difficulty of the lessons expressed as an average rating, so you can focus on the exercises that are most appropriate for you, working your way up to the more advanced concepts.
Good luck.

If you think chess is 99% tactics, then you're 99% wrong.

Get a coach and let the coach direct you to books of the proper level and to best fill you knowledge voids.
It is obviously a silly exaggeration that proves nothing because the original quote is a silly exaggeration that proves nothing.
Also, you're a complete idiot if you think the actual definition of the word "tactic" applies as it is to chess.
You're not making yourself look to smart, you know, calling people names like an 8 year old(8 year olds can't be but so smart, and so...).
And, "the actual definition of the word tactic" is EXACTLY applied to chess. 'chess tactics' are tactics that are based completely on chess.
Also, if you hadda been as smart as you think you are, you woulda picked up on the fact that, when a GM uses the word "tactics" when he is talking about chess, he is talking about 'chess' tactics. What else would he be talking about? Military sniper tactics? Submarine war tactics?
That was hilarious. Thank you for making my day.
I am not trying to make myself look smart, for one. I am calling you an idiot, because what you said was idiotic.
Tactic definition:
"an action or strategy carefully planned to achieve a specific end."
Notice for one the use of the word "strategy". This implies that they are synonymous in a real-life aspect, which they are. In chess, they are two completely different things. Here is the chess definition of tactics for you, as per Wikipedia:
In chess, a tactic refers to a sequence of moves that limits the opponent's options and may result in tangible gain. Tactics are usually contrasted with strategy, in which advantages take longer to be realized, and the opponent is less constrained in responding.
Hint: Notice the emphasis on the word "contrasted".
Again, notice that in chess they are antonyms, whilst in real life they are synonyms. This alone means you are wrong.
Finally, what the hell are you even talking about in your third paragraph? I'm not saying it wasn't applying to chess. I was saying it didn't apply directly and literally to chess. I'm not going to deny that the words "tactic" and "strategy" were chosen appropriately for their chess concepts, but chess is not real life, and, invariably, some differences will be there. Thus, saying they apply directly and 100% is stupid. I think you should probably go back and complete your primary education.
Strategy is a synonym for tactic(strategy can be tactic). Tactic is a word that requires a second noun to have any application(as well as the word strategy). In this case that noun is 'chess', "chess tactics" are basically all chess is.
I suggest you finish reading the article you google, to get your info, heres a copy and paste from wikipedia
Chess strategy consists of setting and achieving long-term goals during the game—for example, where to place different pieces—while tactics concentrate on immediate maneuver. These two parts of chess thinking cannot be completely separated, because strategic goals are mostly achieved by the means of tactics, while the tactical opportunities are based on the previous strategy of play.
So, the GM's quote could be "chess is 99% tactics and strategy". But, he probably figured most chess players would understand what he meant. Unlike yourself.
