what happens to rule breakers. a rule must have consequences what if someone talks about his new computergame while they play chess.

Good idea what do you think?

Maybe we ban them from coming to chess club for 8 weeks? I don't think any other sanction is possible. Maybe we can write a letter to their parent or teacher also.

I think you should have 3 strike policy. first time just tell them they do something against club policy and hope they listen and let them stay and observe how they behave.

2. if they do not listen send them home and tell them they are welcome if they want to obey your terms.

3. if they next club evening repeat without improvement you can ban them.

you shouldn't just throw around with banning people suddenly you are the only one in the club.

Thanks now I have changed the rules. I think most people will always follow the rules but we need these rules for people who don't follow them.

I dont think we will need to ban someone though but you never no.

Can someone tell me about there chess clubs like what do you do on each club meeting?

Should we follow some type of plan or do we just meet and play chess with each other?

And what if there is odd number (e.g. 3 peopple) what does the spare person do? Would they become referee?

1st RULE: You do not talk about CHESS CLUB.  2nd RULE: You DO NOT talk about CHESS CLUB.  3rd RULE: If someone says "I resign" or gets mated, flag falls the game is over.  4th RULE: Only two guys on a board.  5th RULE: One game at a time.  6th RULE: No shirts, no shoes.  7th RULE: games will go on as long as they have to.  8th RULE: If this is your first night at CHESS CLUB, you HAVE to PLAY.

I am not sure about rule 1 and 2 from you because we will need to make posters to advertise about chess club. We want pople to come and then tell there friends and more pople can come.

Also is one game at a time a good idea? If we have example 10 people then 1 game at a time will be very slow.

I like rule 8 very - I have add it to my own rules.

why have rules other than the rules of chess.

and it shouldn't be nessesary to write that people should respect each other as it is just a part of being human to respect each other.

That what I mean because etiket itsn't in the rules of chess so we must make them.

I think rules are importantly necessary to make sure everybody has fun and learns.

"etiket"?  -  ROFLMAO!  It's "etiquette"!

Sorry I no how to say it but couldn't spell it good enough for the spell check to correct it. You know what I tried to say though.

No need to be sorry... he doesn't have the brains to see English is your second language

Thanks some people on here are intolerant of other languages. We all try to write in English here but for some words like etiquette it's not always easy.

When there are an odd number of players at our club one of the stronger players will play two games at once, unless the odd-player just wants to watch.

Thanks for your input here.

Should there be any dress code at chess club? What do pro player wear at social events?

TombstoneToad

#1 Club members will act courteous and respectful towards others at all times

#2 Be quiet. Keep voices to a minimum

#3 Do not disturb ongoing games. This includes talking to people while they are playing, leaning on their table and talking about games aloud while spectating.

#4 Aim to keep a two game limit with the same opponent.

#5 Regular attending members must play with a clock. New members are encouraged to use a clock.

You should have a rule about respecting everyone not just women.

I get the reasoning behind it, but girls/women aren't always angels either.
