chess.com is corrupt

The troll's detailed and creative explanation is a bit funny. Sounds like we are all self taught masters now, but think we need to buy premium memberships because of the very under rated grandmaster bots that make us think we are still only 1400.

if you want to see actual improvemet in your chess game, dont play on this website

they are driven by money. the millions of dollars they make in monthly subscription isn't enough apparently. It's painfully obvious they have employed a new a tactic (this tactic has been used on this site for 1-2 years now) and that being, if you start playing well and improving fastly, chess.com will start pairing you up against obvious smurfs. Accounts that are way higher rated than what they say they are. Either because they created a new account, or they are bored and enjoy beating up on newbs because they cant progress at their own level.

You will notice this happens every time you hit a milestone, almost on the dot. Just reached 1400? Prepare to play the nastiest, best 1400's you've ever seen. Hint: It's because they're smurfs that are really 1800+

Why does chess.com do this you ask? For money. You see, if you improve too fast on your own, you won't need to buy a chess.com premium membership and pay them for their puzzles and lessons and drills.

Tilting = good for chess.com, because it means you're not good enough to improve on your own without their paid services.

As someone who has had diamond membership and gave out countless premium memberships to my members at Beginners & Masters and my friends, I can tell you first-hand the premium memberships do nothing for your game. There's tons of other websites that give you free puzzles. Even then, puzzles play minimal (if any) role in your chess progression. Most GM's agree puzzles are just for fun and don't actually apply to real games and your chess improvement. I suppose, if you're just starting it helps you understand how the pieces move, but other than that...

long story short, chess.com continues to be greedy and money-grubbing corrupt snots who want to see you fail so you pay them money.

get good lol

Hypothetically, if someone were experiencing status anxiety and paranoid delusions about a covert system which conspires against them to prevent them achieving the recognition which they think they deserve, what signs would you look for?

Batman2508

interesting theory, although the smurfs would have to be bots right?

Yeah. I was rated 1200 when I joined... back then you couldn't choose a starting rating, they gave you 1200 and you LIKED it.

I wonder how I worked my way up to 2350 if the system is rigged...?

No necessary, cc could have have a list of smurfs and when they are done with sandbagging (assuming they have some probability estimation when they go from losing to winning from their previous behaviour) and then match you with those ripe for owning you. Pretty good system which would make more money in almost any other application but who are we to judge, maybe money hungry developers don't like easy ways to make money?

But since threads like this pops up now and then, can somebody explain the business plan here? Getting a pop-up about membership when my free puzzles are out, especially if I am on a streak, or when I have seen weekly quota of videos or reviews is simple to understand. But this whole get higher rating -> lose to smurfs -> get so angry I will subscribe to membership sounds a bit off. It works with gatcha and loot boxes because you have immediate result: didn't get weapon/character/skin in your free draw -> buy more boxes and get more draws within 5 sec. But losing couple of games -> start angrily training for a couple of weeks without canceling subscription within next hour when you calm down is just strange.

alternatively you played a few great games and got your rating higher than what you actually are, and now that you are done playing great, you are in a pool of players who are stronger than what you are used to.

This conspiracy is probably the dumbest thing ive heard.

this is obviously @martin_stahl's alt

i thought cc doesnt allow alt accounts? sad!

Do you know who @Martin_Stahl is? if this story was true it would be perpetrated by Erik not Martin who is a moderator who gets paid no money.  Ever for working for chess.com. BTW the whole story is false.
