Hi,

is it possible to play a game against a real opponent (not AI) as I do on Chess.com, but using a physical board ? So my physical moves would be sent to chess.com and my opponent’s moves would be sent to my physical board ?

Thanks

The only board that I know of that currently does automatic moves is the Square-Off board

I have a better idea.

I thought of this way back in the Yahoo Chess days.

Play chess in real life and let Chess.com do the Elo rating.

After you play a game, you send an email to Chess.com.

You [your screen name or email] won or lost against opponent.

Chess.com will calculate the new Elo when both emails match. That is if A won against B; and B lost against A.

That mechanism can be applied to tennis too. Or any game.

You can charge a subscription.

Then Chess.com be be off-line! As it should be. You are only allowed to play 1 game online a week (make it count).

Chess.com would be a hybrid between online and Meetup.com.

I thought of this way back in the Yahoo days. Yahoo could have been Meetup.com if they used chess as a model.

People lack imagination.

Meetup.com can do it too. Extra fee for a subscription to an automatic Elo calculator.

Initial Elo = 1500.

It's very simple.

I'll send an email to Chess.com.

You send an email to Chess.com

Chess.com updates the ratings.

$$$ Cha-ching.

And Chess.com can steer away from "that online non-sense", that I (and I am sure others complain about).

Chess.com is doing the Elo calculations for free.

$ $. I see dollar signs.

For tennis too.

That is what UTR in tennis is.

A money making scheme ripped off of Elo.

Essentially Chess.com would do all the work of real chess clubs. The work that we used to manually do in each chess club.

The last time I looked, they were claiming that was cheating, weren't they?

Square -Off boards are allowed.

As long as you treat it like a tournament game eg touch move

I have a Chessnut Evo and get a lot of satisfaction playing chess.com in the real world. I don’t do 100% of my games there but enough to continue to use it and justify the cash outlay (I was an early adopter on kickstarter). I’m very happy with it, though I haven’t yet learned how to do some of the features for which I bought it.

Yes.

It's called "playing chess".

Circa 1978, in Vietnam, I played "Parcheesi" with a home made set I made out of clay and a brown paper bag. I drew the circles with a plastic Coke bottle cap.

I played it with the kids in the neighborhood.

Now you can get it off the Google App Store.

We have progressed technologically but not socially.

Once we lived in the real world and not "The Matrix".

I played chess via Meetup.com in a "brewpubs".

I brought along my silicone USCF set, a Jerger wind up clock, and a Preppy fountain pen to record the game.

A fountain pen and a wind-up clock, like something out of The Age of Innocence.
