chess.com Rapid vs FIDE rating comparison?

I heard chess.com is actually quite accurately correlated with FIDE rating
(Unlike lichess which is inflated) how true is this?

Obviously rapid chess of all its forms is completely different than classical but I guess it can still correlate…?

Also somehow I find it easier to believe the Blitz rating of chess.com would actually be the accurate because I’m 1350ish in blitz and the quality of opposition seems better in some way than my 1600 rated rapid opponents.

No one really knows.

The data is extremely limited and is self-reported, so any correlation hasn't been validated.

That's true. Chess.com blitz ratings have by far the closest relationship with OTB ratings out of any time control on any website.

Heres a rule of thumb I invented just now that should hold true in 99% of cases.

  • Older guys, people who aren't good at blitz or people who don't take their online ratings seriously might have roughly the same blitz rating as their OTB strength
  • Typical adult players might be rated 200 points lower OTB than their blitz rating here
  •  For young kids and guys who specialize in online blitz the gap might be 400 points or more

In general I would say that one's OTB strength is between 0 and 400 points lower than their chess.com blitz rating, depending on how heavily they specialize in blitz.

That’s pretty much what I thought

What I’m trying to assess is how about the Rapid rating. I did beat an active 1700 and and aging 1800 player... but tbh I lost to a 1100 8 year old once... so, I wonder if my actual OTB strength is 1600 or 1200... (which would affect for example which lessons I want to take, I guess.. for example U1400 youtube class etc..)

and no I don't have the energy or time to actually go play OTB in a tourney.. too official
