Has anyone tried using these OTB? :

When I work a 12 or 13 hour shift at work, I use those. Just like a red bull. I imagine, like said in the original article, that they would be useful in speed chess.

Beer or coffee!

A little splash of whiskey in the coffee helps to take the jitters off of the caffeine. Rum and Coke works well too.

Nice, heckonwheels. I'm having a white russian, myselfSmile

In the morning I like a Pawn Cocktail.

During the day I drink the King of Beers. {Ein Bieren under den Könnigen}

And in the evening I have a Knight Cap.

Tonight, in my ongoing series of "chess drinks", we will begin with an Australian Sauvignon Blanc. Quite delicious, and sure to create the type of mood that a Nimzo-Indian defence can only complimentSmile

For those of you that missed it, there was this kid trying to get his parents to get him a membership for chess.com, and it was absolutely adorable! Everyone tried to help because the kid made it sound soooo urgent. It was so cute, it made my night. And I've been on quite a losing streak today. All of my opponents are not only crushing me, but I sense they are laughing about it. I think it's one win seven losses on the day. One of my worst days ever! So, I'm going for the night cap: Brandy. Warmed up. With a piece of dark chocolateSmile

Thank you, MehdipieroSmile

In my on-going series on "chess drinks", we come to the end of an interesting week of intoxication. Many wonderful things have happened this week, not the least of which has been ready-money for alcoholic beverages during snowy winter evenings. Tonight, I am happy to disclose to you one of the great chess drinks that I am consuming this fine night: Irish Whiskey! I am sharing a few shots with friends and scoring even on chess wins and losses on this site and OTB. The thing about Irish Whiskey, is that it only takes a few shots to actually believe you can play chess, as long as the barometer for this claim is your opponent secretly having had more shots than yourselfLaughing

Hey, let's not encourage youngsters towards harmful habits...

(A bad, bad Vladimir Kramnik)

If you add a jigger of bar bitters and a splash of coke, we call this a Long Island Ice Tea.  Old woman drink 3 or 4 of these at luncheons.

COFFEEEEE

tryst

It's hilarious how everyone that types "coffee" can't stop typingLaughing

tryst

This is the afternoon edition of "chess drinks", as I don't have to work tonight. Coffeeeee was done earlier, so now VERY cheap vodka in some frozen orange juice will be today's drink. I don't recommend it. But, you sometimes have to make due. As the positions in various games crumble all about, the only escape is through making a drink taste so bad, that your disolving openings in your games, pale in comparison.Smile

Ziryab

I must have coffee in the morning, and often in the late evening during rated OTB games.

I've ended many online blitz losing streaks by drinking a two-fer: two shots of Wild Turkey and four small ice cubes. A bit of relaxation can turn those rating valleys into steep slopes upward. However, the third such drink usually impairs my performance to the point that I should stop playing for the evening.

In the past year or so I've had good OTB results when I drink a single glass of red wine before the game. Merlot, cabernet, shiraz all seem the same for this purpose.

tryst

You live the good life, ZiryabLaughing Mmmmm, Shiraz sounds very nice later this evening. Maybe I can sell some books and get a bottle!Smile

When I play Live Chess here, I'm invariably drinking coffee (sometimes with Baileys to take, you know, the edge off).

Lately, I've been thinking about absinthe for evening games.  I'm guessing they drank absinthe while playing chess at the Cafe de la Regence, so why not?  I'm sure it couldn't hurt.  And if you see my ratings suddenly take a 200-point leap, it's not a computer, it's the absinthe.

qixel, if you can get absinthe that would be a wonderful nostalgic drink for chess!Smile I can't get it hereFrown

tngerb, where's the drinking part of that plan? Not that it's bad by any meansLaughing
