Chess Etiquette?

I played my 2nd OTB game a couple days ago against this new guy.  He about drove me crazy.  When it was his go, I remained quite.  When he moved, immediately he started jabbering/talking, and wouldn't stop while I was trying to think.  Also, when he'd make a bad move, he'd say "can I take that back?"  I let him 3 times.  He talked so much the 1 hour game extended to 2 hours.  Then he made a fork with his knight, but didn't see my bishop way off that got his horse.  I quickly took his knight and he blew up.  He immediately knocked over his King in a fit of rage, stood up and paced back and forth, looking at the board.  Then after 10 seconds, he asked if he could take the move back.  Stupidly, I said okay...which extended the game another 30 minutes.  I finally made a bad move and he had me . . . i resigned.  Afterwards, I told myself I'd never play the guy again and was sick of chess for 2 days.

   This guy would have made Fischer, Kasparov or Morphy go crazy and want to strangle him. 

   Comments?  Are there unwritten etiquette rules of chess?

Yeah, no vomiting on the board is allowed.

Good tip, GDog, I'll try to hurl elsewhere if it comes up.  I  told a friend here, that the old guy may have had some mental issues after I thought about it.  Is this common with old chess players?

Well, another thing he did, drove me crazy, he'd move a piece but keep his fingers on the piece and start looking all around, tilt the thing this way and that, looking, held on to it for about 30 seconds, until usually releasing hold of it.  Is this an etiquette breach or just typical of lots of players? 

That's typical behavior for kids just learning the game.

Yeah, I can't imagine Spassky or Kasparov doing that.  This guy was an ole man, who claimed back in the day he was a 1900 player and hadn't played in 30 years.

Nice to know, next time i play my bro in law
