I would love to travel to Japan one day and play some chess there. Been doing research on YouTube on Chess in Japan but all I get is Shogi which does not interest me at all. Can someone help me with this?

So called "international chess" is not popular in Japan.

Shogi and Go are much more popular there.

Fun fact is people from some Asian countries don't casually called it "International chess", like in China, Japan and Korea we tend to call it “Western chess” instead.
