chess in prison - where I am going

Just an update. I was sentenced to 15 years in prison early this morning. I just arrived at my new home around noon.
In regards to the chess, I managed to convince the warden about letting me have a chess set, some books, and an internet connection. To my amazement, he agreed and accomodated my requests :).
Now the next step is to play some games with the other inmates here. Wish me luck!
luck ! 15-13months
well, don't forget to finish games in time, and not forget the number of years you did. chess is so fascinating you could forget to find freedom again.
Twenty years in prison ministry helped me meet many chees players in prison. I brought in very technical chess books, and they devoured them. Chess players, while friendlier in competitions were truly very competitive. Here were constant challenges and fear of losing face over losing. I tried for years to get outside players to come in and play a tournament, but outsiders always backed out at the last minute. THe serious players know all the major opeining for both white and black, because the have so much time to study. As in every institution, the best players earn respect in prison even in chess.
