Chess is a Reflection of Life

Some people don't believe there is a "right way" to live. But then, some people don't believe there is a "right way" to play chess. These people might be stupid. But then, maybe they're onto something?

Recently, I underwent a transformation. Transformations are always instantaneous, but the lead-up to them can be torturous and painful. A crucial consummation point was understanding the theories behind Astrology.

Some people don't believe in Astrology, just as some people don't believe in God and some don't believe in science. Just because something makes no sense to you doesn't mean it makes no sense. The theories behind modern astrology are based on the Post-Jungian "Unus Mundi", a latin word that can be translated to "The Unity of All" or "All is One".

In this way, the Universe is united through reverberances of certain patterns. "As above so below". Fractals exist not just on a microcosmic but a macrocosmic level. In just this way, our psyche can be mirrored by our Solar System, if we know what to look for. To understand who we are, we need only look at the arrangement of the planets at our birth and interpret them using certain fluid archetypes.

Note that it may not be and probably isn't that the stars are determinate of our psyche but, if you like, that our psyche is best interpreted in the stars. Whatever floats your boat.

Of course, this is all just a lead-up to what I have been realizing slowly over the past few days: Who I am and who I thought I was are two very different people. Understanding that my sun sign was Aquarius was only the beginning, but perhaps the most important understanding was that planet of fortune, Jupiter, is ruled by Capricorn.

A lot of us have either more success or less success on the internet as compared to over the board. One of the primary reasons for this is because we act differently over the internet than we do over the board. Understanding that my disrespectful attitude towards players I would have given far more respect to over the board was paramount to my lack of success was only the beginning.

I also realized that my idolization and desire to mimic the style of Mikhail Tal led to my downfall on many occasions, if only because my jupiter is in capricorn and his is in leo.

To summarize, Chess is not necessarily a game of right and wrong, Chess is a game of understanding who you are. Chess is a war between two psyches, and understanding where your psyche differs from another person is paramount to your capability to improve. In my opinion, Chess is easier to learn when you are young because, believe it or not, young children who play chess are more in tune with their own psyche.

Nothing is better evidenced by the change in who I am by the change in how I play. As my idol is Mikhail Tal, I am heavily focused on the aspects of my game which bring me intuitive success and luck, so knowing that my Jupiter is in Capricorn is one of the greatest revelations I could have come across.

TL;DR
Improving at chess goes hand in hand with understanding who you are. In some ways its more important, as it will be easier to unleash your inner genius, as well as understanding your strengths and weaknesses.

Doesn't 24...PxR keep your inner genius locked up still? It's two pawns for rook with no threat of checkmate that I can see?
