Chess is damaging my mental health.

If it weren't for the scholar's mate I might still be stuck at 200.

Yeah scholar's mate was my first tactic too. It took me a while to get into the right midset. I even took a break for almost a year. But once I came back I adopted the mindset that all losses were my fault for not being better. This gave me the drive to study chess more. And the improvement has been steady ever since.

I'm a really big fan about how in chess every single time you lose (except for cheaters) is entirely your fault with nobody else to blame. It really encourages studying and improvement when there are no outside factors or teammates.

Yeah this is it. Once you get this mindset then improvement happens. Nothing you can do about cheaters but all other games. You could have played differently. And that knowledge in itself makes me want to be better.

"Get gud" isn't a term you should throw around at 1200 elo.

It was supposed to be a playful joke to lighten up the mood since OP who wrote this forum is clearly getting too distressed at losing at chess instead of having fun and learning since chess isn't always only about winning and learning is the best approach to it instead of a more nihilistic view of losing.

You should get better at making jokes.

Yeah sure and maybe you should be a bit more lively at transparent jokes that's clearly meant to liven up the atmosphere a bit but you do you i guess.

I don't think anyone found your poorly-written joke funny or bright. "Get-gud" is pretty useless.

Clearly someone's having a pretty bad day if they reacted like this to a "useless" joke meant to liven up the atmosphere even insisting it's useless and dragging it all this way even when i had already explained it was supposed to playfully stop OP(the person who wrote this forum) to stop getting too stressed at losing and should instead have fun learning but oh well, if you're that oblivious and against my type of jokes then i apologize for making "bad jokes" that got you reacting like this but sure if you must insist it's "useless" then i can't do anything about that so i guess i'll apologize for tilting you over such a small joke and hopefully you have a good day to lighten up your mood.

Sorry mkay? if that's what you want to hear then there you go.

I am having a good day, 1836! My rating has been skyrocketing lately. I wasn't expecting you to respond in paragraphs, but I wasn't mad at you, I just don't want you to bug to OP more, they've already posted enough threads complaining.

In the first place if OP is this distressed about losing and not improving then chess was never for them in the first place, since chess requires total focus and a positive attitude, if you aren't improving that's fine keep playing if you want to, if you insist it's negatively affecting you're mental health then that's where you know something's not right.

Well okay then since seeing as my type of light jokes isn't welcome here then i guess it's better i stay out of the discussion, congrats on you're elo then and then i guess everyone have a good day.

I literally was not being toxic the entire time other than that small joke you percieve as "toxic" and even apologized for it if it ended up hurting anybody, and what part of my goodbye was toxic when i had said apologized for my supposedly toxic "jokes" and even congratulated Sobrukai for hitting his peak elo and wishing everybody a good day but ok i guess?

That's my choice to make, and what's wrong with apologizing for my mistakes and congratulating someone for their achievements while wishing everyone a good day? it would seem more toxic if i left without apologizing and on a good note than being silent instead of owning up to my mistakes.

This is not your choice to make. You came to a topic where a person has some psychological struggles and you attack not only him, everyone with your toxicity. Be sure that your behavior will be fully exposed. No one needs your good days. You can't just spit at person and then wish him a good day. If you want to "fix" things - just delete your comments.

This is really ironic considering you're past behaviour in forums, and you're making me out to be some kind of psycho from a simple joke saying "get gud" when i have already apologized profusely and stepped down but it's getting clear you're just some attention starved troll.

Dawg you are actually tripping right now they just want apologized properly and you’re overreacting, im not a fan of toxicity on chess but they’re comment was lighter than a pinch of salt and they even apologized for it “psychologically attack.” Is a heavy word now and it seems like you’re the only one here overreacting.
