Title: Proposal for a New Chess Variant – “King’s Freedom Rule”
Description:
This rule allows the king, on his turn, to capture any friendly piece located on one of the eight adjacent squares.
The king moves onto that square and the friendly piece is removed from the board.
There is no limit to how many times this ability can be used.
Purpose:
The goal of this rule is to give the king a new defensive option.
It allows the king to escape blocked positions caused by his own pieces and to reposition himself in ways that were previously impossible in standard chess.
The king remains a weak, short-range piece; this rule only increases his mobility at the cost of losing material.
Why it’s worth testing:
It adds new strategic depth.
It creates new defensive and escape possibilities.
It keeps the core of chess intact.
It’s simple, intuitive, and compatible with existing rules.
I am sharing this variant to gather feedback from players interested in exploring new ideas in chess.
