Chess lessons as a Christmas present?

I am trying to convince my wife that a chess lesson with a good chess coach would be the best present she could possibly give me!! Although she hates my obsession with chess I think I might be able to get this one over the line.

I am self taught, been playing for about a year now, and was wondering whether one big 3-4 hour lesson would be best? i.e. to show me where I'm at and what critical things I need to learn to progress.

I have read on previous threads that people often do a 30-60min session once a week/fortnight/month. Would a coach object to doing a 3-4 hour lesson in one hit?

I have never had a lesson in my life and I am sceptical about online coaching, but if people can give me their thoughts on the matter it would be appreciated. Let's assume for arguments sake my present is worth USD$300.00 - what would be the best way to put that towards chess lessons?

if you have the self discipline, why not a platinum membership here?

no offence to Chess.com but I can get pretty much all of the main benefits free elsewhere i.e. SCID for computer analysis, chesstempo for tactics, 365chess.com for my opening database etc. Again, no offence to Chess.com, this is far and away the best online chess website I have tried.

If you're self-taught I would find some reasonably priced (20-30$) teacher who can give you a lesson every week for 10 weeks. I would NOT go for a very highly priced teacher for one shot.

Speaking from experience, I had a single lesson with M. Dvoretsky, and while the man is incredible and might be the best chess teacher of all time, it was not as fruitful as the regular lessons I had with my regular teacher.

thanks ozzie, I like that idea. prices in sydney are pretty expensive so not sure I could get one for $20-30 but maybe $40-50 if I'm lucky. that would give me 6 or 7 lessons which I could space out over a 3 month period. done, now to convincing the wife!!
