Looking for feedback/reviews from anyone who has experience with Chess Magnet School. What do you think of this site? How user-friendly is it? Is it feature-rich?

I have a student whose mother asked me about signing him up and I'd like to get input from the Chess.com community. Thanks everyone!

I am thinking of signing up for Oil Magnate School.  I am filthy rich and swimming in natural resources so I think I am set...

It seems OK. It has funny names for each level you achieve. Sort of childish. I used it for a month for free. I did not sign up, or use it for more than ten or twenty hours. Chess dot com with a diamond membership is better. Much better.

Hey even those of us who post rubbish make the forum post appear again on the right hand side for anyone looking for topics - like a refresh facility.  Collect 10 pieces of tripe in one day and you make it to "hot topics".  I am doing you a favour, even if you are too inexperienced to realise it.

Lawdoginator

You could just give it a bump.

Sorry if I'm barking up the wrong tree...

I was looking for some helpful insight from a community of chess players. Why can't people just stick to the topic or not post at all?

More importantly, what is the motive to randomly post to the forums without providing any information? I really don't get it.

This is chess.com in case you didn't know.

Yeah... I know.  :(

One of these days maybe I'll stop beating my head into the same wall over and over and over and...

It's kind of like my golf game. Every time I start at the 1st tee I decide "today's the day I hit my driver straight!"

S-L-I-C-E

And the driver goes back in the bag for the rest of the day. Lol

Have you checked out www.chesskid.com, the spinoff site of chess.com that's for kids only?

Yes - I've checked it out. I think it's great, but for some reason my student's mom isn't interested.

This student will be going to India for 10 weeks over the summer and mom wants a way he can keep up w/ his chess study. It looks like Chess Magnet School allows me, as his coach, to set up lesson material, etc. in a virtual environment just for him - almost as if we were having a face-to-face lesson. Anyone know about this feature? Does Chesskid.com have a similar feature?

Thanks!

Sorry, I don't know the complete answer to that.  It appears that coaches can organize tournaments for their kids, but I don't know if it provides a virtual teaching environment.

I just started to play around on Chess Magnet this week And I think it is wonderful so far. It is helping me get back on the right track. Great for beginners and more advanced players such as me. It is like doing drills, which help you in warming up and help you develop good habits. You can take an advance test to see where you stand in knowledge then the sight will automatically pick the lessons you need for your skill level. well worth the investment, I am beginning to think. I will finish my month free and see. Also I was thinking about doing some youth coaching and this sight is great for setting up students. They have detailed graphs to show you how you and your students are progressing and what areas you might need help in....

I joined the chess magnet school for a 1 year membership because if you are a USCF member the fee is only 26 bucks for the year. For about the cost of a chess-book i thought the site was well worth it for players from begginers to somewhere a round the 1800 range USCF. The site is not just tactics the " advanced visulazation " going about seven or eight moves deep tests other skills, All in all it is NOT a great site but a good site, But of course if you had to pay full price then as others have posted a diamond membership at Chess.com would be the way to go.   Cool
