Unless your weird moves were also brilliant you'd get whumped badly if you were competing against a reasonable player. Stick to sensible play.
Unfortunately this happens a lot with (some) chess engines when they try to play at a low skill rating. They throw a piece away and then revert back to playing at full strength. This also happens occassionally with humans 
I'd heard that ChessMaster wasn't quite so erratic. Perhaps it depends on the version and which "personality" you play against. If possible, check that the personality doesn't have too large a "blunder" value.
when I play chess master - - - it makes what I consider crazy random moves where the move makes no sense to me - - - then three or four moves later it wipes out my pieces with forks and pins galore - -
-- if in a game I make random weird moves is there a good chance I can wipe out an opponent or would I just get whumped badly
