Chess not following time control during disconnect.

Unfortunately some people in the world, like myself, live in areas where internet access can be a bit spotty. I for example sometimes get disconnected from my wifi and am required to reconnect on occasion.

This, as a general rule, is simply a minor inconvenience online, however due to Chess.com's refusal to follow time control its a big issue when playing Chess. Regardless of the amount of time left on the clock, the site only gives a disconnected player a very limited time to reconnect. I dont know the exact amount of time, but it seems to be less than 60 seconds. Today is a great example, I lost a game, where I had a significant material and positional advantage with nearly 5 minutes on my clock simply because my wifi disconnected and it took me more than 60 seconds or so to reconnect.

A players clock is, at its core, 'the amount of time the player has to complete their portion of the game' .. when playing, for example, a 10 minute game, the player has 10 minutes to complete their moves. Being disconnected has zero relevance on this time control. The player is allotted a specific time to play. Both players agreed to this prior to the first move. Chess.com simply refuses to follow this agreement and the rule of time control by arbitrarily choosing to force a forfeit of remaining time because of a disconnect. This is annoying at best, and a blatant disregard for the rules of the game at worst.

The amount of time is dependent on the time control.

The problem is, too many people disconnect to make their opponents wait, sometimes when losing, sometimes to make their opponent think they are abandoning then will make a move hoping to get wins that way. Unfortunately, that doesn't look any different from a legitimate connection issue.

I think that is irrelevant .. even if someone disconnects and the other player has to sit there and wait for the opponents time to run it .. so what? They agreed to the terms of the game, including the allotted time each player has before starting the game. The time control is the time control and it should be adhered to.
