If you want to choose an opening, you need to read the advantages and disadvantages of each opening...

Start with the sound openings firsts...

After reading all of them, choose the one that fits your playstyle and study it (for example you haven't practiced tactics yet because you are new in chess, then choose the ones that are solid... If you don't want to memorize, there are system openings... etc)

Try to play it on a game...

If the game transitions to another opening than what you studied, take a note on it...

Repeat the process, until you have a scoreboard of transitions of openings that are popular to you opponents...

Study the most popular transitions...

If you love the transition more than your latter opening, then choose that opening as your primary...

Repeat the process, until you are exhausted and finally concluded that your current opening is the one you truly love...
