Yep Who Cares ???

Or to put it another way the important thing is that Chess was brought to Europe many years ago and became a very well liked game.

Chess is derived from a game first played in India. It spread throughout the world due to merchants and travellers. It evolved and changed throughout times. Now it's a global game.

Also, who cares?

Garry Kasparov wrote in his famous book "My Great Predecessors"

"A slow war game not unlike chess originated nearly two thousand years ago in India, and undergoing slight changes, made the endlessly long journey through the south of Central Asia, Persia and the Arab Countries of the Middle East, to the Iberian Peninsula, However, the 'Indian' version of the origin of chess became known to Europeans only at the end of the 17th century. Only one thing can be stated with certainty: modern chess originated in the 15th century on the Mediterranean. And this is already a purely European Invention - an intellectual game, modelling psychological warfare"

---   Well it seems that a number of people do care. One can see threads on the go where people state that Chess was invented here or there or somewhere. Why they would care is another question that one might ask as well  lol.
