There might be a correlation between the two(IQ and playing skill in chess), but that doesn't directly attribute one to the other.
chess players = nerds?
When i was really into chess i spent probably average 4-6 hours every day for two years straight, nobody comes out of something like that a normal, well-adjusted person

Your kinda right ig
This is overall a pretty repugnant post. I'm not sure why you felt the need to throw a bunch of hate around at people you don't even know. Did you have a bad day, and you decided to lash out here? Did someone hurt you? Maybe you should try being a better human being.
Hey man, I don't appreciate you disparaging nerds by associating us with chess people, who are some of the dumbest, emotionally maladjusted people I know. Nerds are cool
Chess is not for nerds.
Chess is for knuckle-dragging, hairy-backed MEN!
I like the Neanderthal comparison to an attacking chess player. Sacrificing the house to get a chekmate, an then opens a bottle of Whiskey. *LoL*
chess players = nerds?
Do kids still use the word? "Nerd" ?
I mean, adults never have, but I know kids used to, many years ago.
The question was more like: are chess players motivated enough for school
Chess or any other hobby/passion/interest might trump schoolwork or homework in young students. A few years ago, there was an article on Psychology Today that discussed underachievement in gifted male students and investment in hobbies was one of the reasons for underachievement.

I think the classical Gentleman should follow this guideline:
1) Get good grades in school. Learn basics of chess !!
2) Try some girlfriends. Learning the difference between love and sex !!
3) Get a drivers's licence, and be adventurous out in the world !!
4) Read books, watch movies, and listen to lots of music (both popular and classical) !!
5) Start studying chess, and spend time doing it !!
Good chess players practice chess day and night, right? Well, if they put that same motivation into studying, they could 100% be nerds. But that's not the question. The question is, do they actually put the same effort into studying as they do for chess?
Like, in a non-biased way, when you see a very good chess player (like I mean the top), if you didn't know that they played chess, you would think that they are nerds. Why? Probably because of the glasses and hair. Like bro, lets actually be honest, we all know those nerds who walk with glasses and a combover (hairstyle). And they always look like they're DEPRESSED, like bro why?
Anyways, tell me your thoughts on this.
