Do chess problems help? The reason Im asking cause I just started playing chess 5 months ago. The problems consists of moves like white move and mate and two. Would these type of problems make me a better player? Also do any one look at the hints or just do the problems.

They can definitely help but that certainly shouldn't be your only method of learning.  Find a mentor and/or pick up some books, the "Play Winning Chess" series by Yasser Seirawan and Jeremy Silman would be a great place to start.  Most of all, play.  When you lose, look over the game and try to figure out why you lost.

Chess problems can be great for sharpening your tactical mind and can help you recognize patterns.  However, when you're in a real game, you won't have someone tell you that you have a mate in 4.
