Chess rating suggestion

I play a lot of ranked video games and in almost all of them there is some sort of trial period where you need to play a certain number of games before you get your rating. In some games you're not allowed to even play ranked games before you've played a certain number of games. This helps to make sure that you're placed in the appropriate pool of players quickly. This might not be too huge of a deal because of the glicko algorithm that the rating system here is based off of, but giving new players a rating of 1200 does skew any statistics that might be gained from the website. Surely if ratings were withheld for a number of games after registering on the website then  statistics would be less biased, no?

I have two/three questions:

  1. Has withholding a rating for a trial period after registration been thought of already?
  2. If so, why was it rejected as an augmentation to the current rating system?
  3. If not, would this be something useful to add to the current rating system?

The rating system here accounts for this by using the Glicko RD. It estimates the standard deviation of your rating based on how many games you've played and (I believe) how recently. The higher the RD, the more your rating changes per game, and the less your opponents' ratings change.
