Yeah but have you seen what happens when the British try to make a Hollywood style film? Its pretty pathetic.
Ooh just reminded myself.. Shaun of the Dead! :D

All this talk of the best sitcoms and nobody mentions Scrubs? If you haven't seen it, do yourself a favor and check it out. I'd put it among my favorite sitcoms of all time, alongside The Simpsons and Family Guy, which sort of tells you a little bit about the humor style.
And I agree with the comment above. Friends was a comedy?
About chess humor, I posted the one and only chess joke I know (besides my USCF rating, which has been steadily heading in the wrong direction for months) in another thread a week or two ago. Found it. Here's the thread (if this link works): http://www.chess.com/forum/view/general/chess-jokes-anyone

Friends was most definately a comedy in my opinion. If something is funny then it must surely be a comedy. What other genre could it be? Also, our Stacy told a joke on here a few posts ago, albeit, not a particularly funny one, but nevertheless, a chess related joke. Fromps, your USCF rating is so funny I laughed until a little bit of wee came out ;)

it was alright mate, any contribution from you is worth a read. i got one for you now:
paddy and murphy were walking through the forest when they came across a lunberjack yard. outside was a sign saying 'treefellers wanted'. paddy said to murphy, 'murphy, its a shame seamus isn't with us, we could have gone for that!'
That's not just an American thing, lostapiece. I've always said the first two casualties of the internet were spelling and grammar. Civility was third.

I must admit Shaun of the Dead was pretty bad,
but I found Hot Fuzz to be hilarious....
To me, I feel like British humor has more class than American humor.
Scrubs is definitely worth checking out though, a fantastic sitcom!
Arrested Development is also hilarious, but only appeals to people with a certain type of humor.
Over the years, the Americans have bought the rights to several of our comedies and unfunnied them. I have never seen one that they have equalled let alone improved. Now, I'm not saying that the yanks cant do comedy, because some of the stuff they turn out is brilliant. Out of the thousands of sitcoms they churn out every week at least half a dozen contain lots of smile humour, and one or two have even been known to create a chortle.
This is a good point. We americans have good origianal humor, but when we try to remake something from a different culture it hardly ever turns out well.
