Chess Schedule Advice

Greetings All,

I joined up because I love the game and this site is a tremendous resource. I admit that I am somewhat overwhelmed with where to start training and how much time to spend given all the tools and options. I am not a very strong player (yet) and I have read a couple tactics books (though still struggling to improve in this area), I know the basics, but still playing under 1050.

Can anyone please lend me some practicle advice and guide me with how much time to spend playing live, analyzing my games, using the tactics trainer, chess mentor, game explorer, training videos, etc. I have about an hour a day through the week (end of day and usually quite tired) and a few more hours on the weekends when I have rested from work. By the way, I have the turn-based games and tactics trainer on my android too - and love that ability - I spend my breaks on the trainer.

If this is all posted elsewhere, a point in the direction would be helpful. I really want to improve my game. I just want to improve and make friends with efficiency and results.

 Many thanks,

Altus

IM Dpruess had a quick outline in some thread, I forgot which one -- maybe he'll come along or someone will dig it up.  The most important thing you can spend your time on though is actually playing games -- a lot of study wont do you much good if you aren't spending at least as much time playing games.

As far as study time though I think it was something like tactics trainer for 15 minutes, chess mentor for 1 hour, videos for 30 minutes... but he made it add up to 2 hours so I'm not sure :)  maybe throw some more video time in there.

Thanks for your comments orangehonda. I will look for that thread, on the other hand, your advice seems very reasonable so I will start following your line of thinking. Much appreciated Smile
