Has anyone done any reading on the use of chess in therapy? I only play chess because when I do I really focus on one thing, playing. I believe I have adult ADD. I have not found out if playing helps me in other areas of life in regards to concentration or not.

Yes it can help! I use to work with children/adults with ADD, any strategy or concentration game can help yr attention span, especially when yr playing a game you like. Chess def helped me when I had a brain disorder a few years ago... called ALC. My level of consciousness was extremely low, along with stroke-like symptoms, but I recovered well. I just have some minor short term memory loss. I know Chess and Suduko helped my recovery process!

Hello! I use chess as a therapeutic intervention in my sessions. I use in particular with males (a few females are interested too). I use it to develop interpersonal skills, concentration, self- control, awareness, promote long-term and short-term decision making, and consider consequences. I have found it useful with males because it is competitive, manage anger and emotions, and respect for opponents. Plus it gets them out of video games and play with a real person. So far I have seen positive results.
