Chess tilt from 1398 to 1260, too much blitz?

I’ve gotten back into chess for about a month or two now, i played alot of rapid and managed to nearly reach 1400 elo, that’s when i stopped rapid and started playing blitz for about a 2 weeks or more, after getting back into rapid, i dropped nearly 150 points of elo, i keep making moves i normally wouldn’t, one-move blunders, its really discouraging dropping that much considering a game lasts almost 20 minutes, those 20 minutes add up and as college student i can’t really put in more time, but at the same time i’d really like to reach 1800 maybe even 2000 one day. does anyone know a reason what caused the tilt and if playing too much blitz has anything to do with it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated 🙏

I lost double what you did, 290 rating points, by playing far too many games. Some people can cope with lots of games, I found out the hard way that I can't. You start losing belief in your own ability when your rating plummets and it becomes a vicious circle. My rating is climbing again by playing much less often.

Of course you could simply be playing far too quickly after playing so much Blitz.

Don't lose heart though. Your rating will start going up again! 👍

I had this experience too!

If you can manage even 10–20 minutes a day, here’s a simple study routine:

5–10 min tactics
1 rapid game
5 min review of that game

Thank you guys

Too much blitz and bots give you rapid ratings cancer. Avoid!
