Because any video you'll ever need is up on YouTube and other video sharing sites including hundreds of users making analysis, tactical and positinal puzzles, chess documentaries and so on.

Choose a well run, heavily moderated, site.

Only download from "Trusted" or "Verified" uploaders.

Only download files that are of the correct size and format.

Scan before opening!

lol 2016 still torrenting for chess knowledge . as long as you have a trusty antivirus, that runs autopilot, you should be fine, it'll pick up and kill off all the spooks even if you are in the process of downloading, it'll kill it on it's tracks

There are free chess engines and free GUIs (graphical user interface) on the internet, you don't need to use torrents for that.
Stockfish is free and is one of the strongest engines ever. You can download it from their official website.
For a GUI, you can use a dozen different ones for free (Arena, Scid vs PC, ChessX, etc.)

One of them will work on your computer, whatever version of Windows or Linux you're using (never used a Mac, so I don't know about that).

There is also the option to buy older versions on Steam or other digital distribution sites.
Depending on what you want to do with it, an older version is perfectly fine most of the time, and they're on sale for half the price.
