Overly emotional people don't make good chess players, but there are exceptions to every rule.

INFP - 2275. And I get very emotional when people mistake the F for emotions instead of what it is: a value system. At least that is what Fi does: comparing situations according to one's own personal value system.

Thank you for that insight on MBTI and chess. I do agree. Being F doesn't necessarily mean you are a very emotional person, it's more a matter of how you make certain decissions.

Solid INTJ. There's a clear pattern here, but it's not something we didn't already know.

~1650 blitz, playing seriously for a little over a year.

mbti might not be as popular among researches as big 5 and similar systems due to its bimodal distribution, but it has strong correlations with all other typological systems and is much more useful in practice to the people being typed. mbti is derived from psychological functions devised by Jung - father of modern psychology and is used by businesses and organizations worldwide, so anyone dismissing it is just uninformed on the matter. what gives it bad rep are all the self administered online questioners which usually mistype the person and people confusing the letters in ones type with the underlying function axes, since the mbti terminology is not very intuitive.

INTJ and INTPs, and to lesser degree ENTP, INFP, ENFP, INFJ, ISTPs are probably overrepresented among higher rated chess payers compared to general population. on the other extreme ESTJs and ESFJs are imho the least likely to be interested in chess.

I've been pretty curious about how chess and MBTI types might be linked too. A while back, I took the MBTI test on https://personality-type.com/ just for fun, and it was interesting to see how my personality type lined up with my strategy in chess. For example, as an INTJ, I love planning and long-term strategy, which seems to match well with the way I approach chess games. If you’re exploring this, definitely check out the test on the link provided to see what your type might reveal about your chess style!

INTP-A playing for 2 years and 1200 elo !

I'm INFJ-A (Advocate). I've been on chess.com for just over 8 years now (I took up chess the same day I created my chess.com account). My chess.com rapid rating recently crossed 2100 (currently 2114).

Your test asserts I'm an INTP-A; precisely what that implies about my playstyle and decision-making regarding chess I'll leave to your interpretation (if you're still gathering data 4 years down the line).

I've been playing for four years and I typically hover around 2150 rapid, 2100 blitz, 1950 bullet.

INTP but I think I am letting the INTP team down Learned the rules 2 years ago, only 700 rated Rapid.

Gimfain

ISTJ-A. 1800 rapid player here.

Back in the day I used to be intj but in my current work its more important to read the room and observe people so that changed from relying on just intuition.
The only two values that are strong is observant and thinking, the rest could honestly go either way.

Everyone learns at their own pace and puts in as much work as they see fit.

Whatever your strngth, you aren't letting anyone down so long as you find pleasure in the game.
