I think some (all) your problems with infinite set theory is that you imagne infinite as a number. Mothers and children is just an example, but the size of the infinites comes from logic neceseties, not that we count / calculate.
One way to look at it is we are not saying anything about the size of the two lists, but the relationship between them.
Imagne there are a infinite number of siblings. Even if that is a infinite number I can say that the number of sibling relations has to be a even number. By your logic this should not be possible because the list is infinite But :
If I am sibling with you, then necesary you will have to be sibling with me. So thats 2 relations. In a group of 3 Sibelings, its 6 relations, and so forth.
There are some more relations, and by using these we can say thing about the relationships of numbers even if they are infinite

Yes. Cardinality becomes a lot clearer once you understand how it can be defined in terms of mappings. I think most people could understand the notion of a function, and the properties of such functions (injectiveness for example). But this stuff is going to be a mystery to those who have not studied the subject.

The plausible explanation of the observed fact of 106 draws is 106 games with 0 error.
It could be that 105 games have 0 error and one game has 2 errors.
In that case there is not one, but several back-up lines that draw.

Error distribution: 106 - 0 - 0 - 0 - 0
Possible error distribution: 105 - 0 - 1 - 0 - 0 still proven because of redundancy.
Impossible error distribution: 0 - 0 - 106 - 0 - 0.
There is no reason to have 106 games with 2 errors and none with 0, 1, or 3 errors.
