Yes I agree with you, nowadays chess is less attracting for kids than video games which have grown too realistic & sophisticated. my family's example is one of them: i started taking chess seriously around 10 years ago when it was still SEGA era (!) and i actually fell in love with it despite the fact that no one encouraged me. now my younger brother who is 16 won't take it seriously since he is a video game addict.
Perhaps that is only half the reason. it mostly depends on your "love at the first sight" (!) for the game.
is chess on the decline on the up the same. are the young interested or is it all ps3 xbox.my son is eleven he has a working understanding of chess but at the moment for him it is uncool as is reading sadly.is this likely to change. i live in the uk is this typical of my country or the world
