[Resolved] Chessbase Light Database Help

Hello chess friends, I am trying to download a database of games to Chessbase light.

I know Chessbase has a limit of games you can add, but I am sure that this file is well under the limit. When I download the file, it seperates into two documents, one is the PGN database, the other is the configuration settings. When I attempt to open the PGN database, it only displays one game. When I click on the game, the notation window is filled with random words and moves.

Also, when I go to the "text" window in the database, I recieve the message "database has no guiding text."

It would seem that I need to put the configuration settings and the PGN database files together, but I have no idea on how to do this.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Update: After working on the problem in a friend, (thank you cool_dude83 Tongue Out) we figured out that the original file is fine, but between the time that I download the file and when it appears in my downloads page the file somehow becomes unreadable.

Still experimenting...

Just out of curiosity, could you post the download link?

I don't have the download link, a friend sent the file to me attached to an email

You're welcome :)

Hmm, it always pays to be careful with e-mail attachments. What's the file extension of the attached file? (Maybe try uploading the file to VirusTotal for some peace of mind? Your friend might be a good guy, but you have to ask where he got the file.)

I have found a solution! I downloaded the file onto my Ipod, (which works fine,) copied the games onto a note, emailed the note to myself, and then pasted them into Chesstempo's PGN viewer.

I still have yet to figure out why the file is being so unfriendly to my laptop.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread, but what ever became of this issue?  I've downloaded the new Paramount Chess Database that has Chess Informants 1-123, and all of the PGNs downloaded fine, but the "guiding lights," as Chess Informant calls them (i.e., the main articles) are not present.  The error reads the same as your error, i.e., "database has no guiding text."

Any suggestions?
