I've looked in the Chessbase 11 program and I don't think it is possible to indicate, after setting up a board position, which side is to move. (If it is, I don't see it.)
Other programs, of course, have a little "move indicator" on the side of the board. With some intefaces, it's nothing more than a white dot near the White pieces when it's White to move, and a black dot near Black's pieces when it's Black to move.
It appears that If you PRINT a diagram, in Chessbase 11, you will see this dot (move indicator), but it doesn't appear as if it shows up otherwise.
Of course, you can do a screen capture of the position and then, with graphic programs (the wonderful Paint Shop Pro, program, for example) you could edit the png, jpg, or bmp graphic file and add your OWN dot, but that's a lot of work, especially if you are creating many diagrams.
Often times, (but not always) the side to move is at the bottom. You might want to flip the diagram and have Black at the bottom, when you setup a positon with Black to move.
I guess it really depends on exactly what you are doing. Chessbase might not be the ideal took for your task. Then again, maybe this is do-able in Chessbase 11 and we're both missing it.
Chessbase position setup: how to show which side to move?
Appreciate for your input and answer to my question!
I tried and found a way, not prefect but feasible: after setting up the position, we can select a move in notation window, then press Ctrl+Alt+M to insert a training question. By this way, when you open the database and this position again, there would be a pop up window asking what is the best move for white/black. And you can set time for the question.
I feel it's a simple question but I cannot find the answer: after you setup a position in chessbase 11, how do you show the board and know which side to move? It is specified in the configuration when you set up the position, but it's not shown after you set it up.
I know I can put text as White to move in comments so it can be shown in notation window, but that seems not an easy way.
Any input? Thanks!
