It's funny how as soon as you get over 1200 rating (impressive I know) - people stop being abusive in the chat.

Do people hang up their gloves once they are around that level or is it just lower ranked players who feel the need to gloat when they win and abuse when they lose?

The other day when I see used of word Dick in the forum, I know that people can be quite abusive.

baptistpreach
Dick is also a mans name. Sheesh! Why you gotta be so offensive to all the Dicks out there?

Back in the 1960s there was a football player named Dick Felt on the Patriots. (true story)

This one doesn't even try to hide it, I remember him obsessed with people making public age, gender and ocuppation. Also America is the greatest, or something like that.

As if we cared...

Nope. At 1300 as well as 1400 and 1500 and 1600 1700 1800.

I think around 2000 things go better. Still , but less. Players are skilled enough to express their feelings on board and are mature enough or experienced enough (most of them with high OTB rating) that they simply don't care about online blitz or they just cursed and trash talked enough on the road to 2000. At that level actually matches (longer than 1-2 games) are more common, becouse less and less players are that high rated and rematches are often given and what you have to say you pretty much say it on board with pieces etc. But Tilt mode and anger is absolutely there too.

It could be an age thing too....very interesting that it's still happening at the higher levels....

I think that is because lower level players do not have respect for the game that higher rated players do.
clms_chess

It happens at the higher levels but not nearly as much as the lower levels...

Immature younger players...vast majority being teenage and young adult guys... totally lack social etiquette skills. lol

I think I can safely assume there's a correlation between the illogical and irrational behavior of raging over a chess loss and the illogical and irrational play that makes those players have low ratings.

clms_chess

Yep...you are probably right TRex :)

I think it would be the opposite.  A 1000 rated player doesn't really care if (s)he loses.  A 2000 rated player losing to that 1000 rated player will go bezerk.

No that would be closer to normal behavior i think..well maybe not berzerk...but not happy anyway.

She is talking about illogical/irrational (and I would add extreme baby like drama queen imaturity lol...sigh)...behavior :)

love the avatar... crazy as always lol. Say, isnt about time for our next game? lol

My rating has goes between 1200- 1400. Playing a lot of games. My rating is starting to show. Whenever I beat a few higher ranked players that's when players get abusive. Not all, but a few

Imagine if it was OTB!  I've seen such bad behavior from higher rated players.  For some reason, people think higher rated players equate to being well educated, sophisticated, and good mannered.

Don't beat them then.

Since they won't let me talk during the matches, I needed to find other ways of distracting my opponent.  I found bringing in models that walk around with the last move on big white signs seems to work well.
