chess.com mystery members

if u click on the sign up button it tells you how many people became members on chess.com in the past 24 hours. it is usually a number between 4000-5200. However live chess seems to always be around 1200-2500 players.

so my question is where are these 4000 new players every day going?

if 4000 new members a day thats 28000 a week and 112000 per month. so at least at weekends there should be 50 000+ players?

maybe that number of new members is made up?

There will also be lots of members leaving the site, not necessarily de-registering but just not logging on any more.  You'd only expect the number of players to increase over time if the number of new members exceeded this lapse rate.

              "They work shifts".      And the're very good workers too. They don't just insult people here. They have other sites they need to go to and insult other people.
