Chess.com virus

I have been infected with an adware virus apparently downloaded from chess.com, there are reports of this virus from this site going back seven months from free users of the site. My Norton AV program will not detect nor remove it and it has left my laptop unusable, this is from my IPad, I will now have to stop visiting this site from my laptop once I have got it fixed. I am very disappointed.

Mister-Horse

You don't have to stop visiting this site, it wasn't your fault.

can you please give me more information? we do not have any viruses on our site, but it is slightly possible that occasionally advertisements on ALL websites can have viruses (when our ad providers like google or yahoo let virus ads through). this has happened twice in the last 7 years (and again, it's not from us, but from the advertising services we use). can you give me some more information or evidence? was it from a particular ad? what is the name of the virus?

Your not disapointed with the site. Your disapointed with NORTON!

I have just been infected with the same virus, I do have Norton AV installed and it still got through and nd seems unable to remove it. My laptop is now unusable and I am down to my IPad. This is shameful.

erik

i hear that you are frustrated. can you provide more information? i would like to help, but i would need to see some evidence to support your claims. thanks!

JustinJ_FairfieldU

forgeral, you say this is the same virus, same as what?

Now Erik doesn't listen to me... I would recommend to use adblock Laughing

I bet he's trying "system restore" now.  When he finds out THAT doesn't work either, he's gonna come back twice as angry.

Forgeral;  Just my opinion buddy.  Don't buy on-line during the months of Nov to Feb.  These viruses are created particularly for the holiday season, and they can be insidious. NO anti-malware can stop them all because they mutate. And the hacker/designers are worthless human beings,IMO.

It sounds like the Flu! Drink plenty of fluids,

Your first issue is that your running norton.

Secondly get a screen shot, and or the messge/name of the virus and submit it to chess.com

jonnin

ad blockers. good virus software (sorry but last time norton was any good, peter still worked there...).    And almost no infection is so bad you cannot fix it.  A GOOD virus fixer run as a BOOT DISK can cure your hard drive.  It is nearly impossible to fix the same disk you boot from... you have to boot off a CD or USB and fix the hard drive with that clean boot, keeping the corrupted OS from preventing the virus fixer from working.   99% or so of the viruses these days can be fixed by booting to safe mode and removing them from your registry and startup sequence if you are computer literate.

Norton is a virus.

It could be a malvertising issue, such malicious advertisements that get bundled into legitimate online advertising networks. It's becoming a popular method for the bad guys to infect computers.

Well if you don't have a back up of your Windows install to reimage the system, you might want to install Linux Ubuntu that will save you some precious money. You will then be able to use your laptop with a brand new OS.

I don't care how twisted a virus/creator is . Everyone has to admit, that virues are cool. The concept is just amazing, and way out of my league of comprehesion.

I only recommend Ubuntu or Linux Mint for novice. They are easier to use and figure out, also they enjoy the support of a great community ready to help if needed.

fedora is the best IMO. gentoo is nice, ubuntu is my least favorite distro.
