What Chat Commands can I Use in Live Chess?

There is a large variety of chat commands you can use in live chess! To see a list of all of them, type /help in the chat window. 

List of general commands:

  • /sound /sounds    Toggles sound.
  • /follow    Follows a member's games / prints a list of followed members. Example: /follow Bishop or /follow
  • /unfollow    Stops following a member / stops following all. Example: /unfollow Bishop or /unfollow
  • /friend    Sends a friend request. Example: /friend Bishop
  • /observe    Observes ongoing member's games. Example: /observe Bishop
  • /ping    Checks my lag or a member's lag. When in a game, it checks both players' lag. Example: /ping or /ping Bishop
  • /examine /analysis    Opens an Analysis board. If you are in a game, it opens a board to analyze together the recently finished game.
  • /archive /history    Loads a member's games archive. Example: /archive Bishopor /archive
  • /top    Observes top games of the type bullet, blitz, standard or friend. Example: /top friend, /top blitz
  • /quit /exit    Quits Live Chess.
  • /1,3,5,10    {0} Creates a seek of 0 minutes.|{1} Creates a seek of 1 minute.|]1,Inf] Creates a seek of 1,3,5,10 minutes.
  • /seek    Creates a seek with specified clock settings. Example: /seek 5 0
  • /play /challenge    Challenges a member with specified clock settings. Example: /play Bishop 2 12  - if you want the game to be unrated, add ‘u’ at the end. Example: /play Bishop 2 12 u
  • /accept    Accepts last challenge received.
  • /decline    Declines last challenge received.
  • /match    Starts a game between two players. Example: /match Knight Bishop 5 0 rated
  • /partner /+partner    Request bughouse partnership. Example: /partner Bishop
  • /nopartner /-partner    Leave bughouse partnership. Example: /nopartner
  • /tell /t    Sends a chat request. Example: /tell Bishop How was your vacation?
  • /chat /c    Sends a chat request. Example: /chat Bishop
  • /best /rank    Opens a tab with a histogram of the best live chess players. Example /best or /best bullet
  • /finger /profile /f /fi /info /who    Shows a member's profile information. Example: /finger Bishop
  • /stats /stat /statistics    Displays specified player's statistics. Example: /stats Bishop
  • /messages    Takes you to the messaging board
  • /password    Takes you to the change password page
  • /refer    Takes you to the refer to friends page

List of Game commands:

  • /friend    Sends a friend request. Example: /friend Bishop
  • /ping    Checks my lag or a member's lag. When in a game, it checks both players' lag. Example: /ping or /ping Bishop
  • /rematch    Offers a rematch.
  • /close    Closes game tab/window if possible.
  • /resign    Resigns current game.
  • /draw /d    Offers a draw / accepts a draw.
  • /abort    Aborts current game.
  • /q    Need queen
  • /r    Need rook
  • /b    Need bishop
  • /n    Need knight
  • /p    Need pawn
  • /-q    No queen
  • /-r    No rook
  • /-b    No bishop
  • /-n    No knight
  • /dm    Diagonals mate
  • /am    Anything mates
  • /nd    No diagonals
  • /qm    Queen mates
  • /rm    Rook mates
  • /nm    Knight mates
  • /ak    I'm attacking
  • /dk    I'm defending
  • /tp    Trade pieces
  • /nt    No trades
  • /st    Stall
  • /ns    Don't stall, we are low on time

List of Analysis Board commands:

  • /close    Closes game tab/window if possible.
  • /invite    Invites a member to your Analysis Board. Example: /invite Bishop
  • /mute    Mutes a member
  • /unmute    Unmutes a member
  • /student    Makes the member a student
  • /owner    Passes ownership to a student.
  • /viewer    Makes the member a viewer.

Urls to create challenges:

  •  /live#time=10m0s0i
  •  /live#time=10m0s0i&game=&rated=&minrating=&maxrating=&color=&member=
    • Note: the options for game type are chess, chess960, threecheck, kingofthehill, crazyhouse and bughouse.

Keyboard/mouse shortcuts:

  • Press X to flip board.
  • Press Z to go into focus mode.
  • Press Arrow Right to go to next move on board.
  • Press Arrow Left to go to the previous move on board.
  • Press Arrow Up to go to the first move on board.
  • Press Arrow Down to go to the last move on the board.
  • Press ctrl/shift + Right Click on a square to highlight green.
  • Press alt + Right Click on a square to highlight blue.
  • Right Click on a square to highlight red.
  • Hold Right Click from one square to another to draw arrow on board.
  • Hold alt key to temporarily disable auto-queen.

I played on here for years without knowing this stuff, but it's useful.
