People with mental illness can play chess if their illness doesn't directly affect their ability to do so.....but yes, I agree that playing chess should not be seen as a pathology.

2. morphy and fischer and steinitz were both really good and uhhh stuff happened to them. not saying all chess players are mentally ill but out of the 33 world champions (La Bourdonnais to Ding) 3 have been mentally ill thats like, 9% 9% is a lot. probably just a spurious correlation but its still fun to research

Anyone who “sucks” would probably be sub-1600 FIDE. Being “Good” at chess would probably be 2100 FIDE and upwards
