Computer analysis alone is very instructive.

Set up any position and then look at what score it gets and the scores of different moves you try. Walk back and forth through different variations, watching the scores and the suggested variations to come. Patterns start to emerge or be refreshed in your memory. Of course, the score is not based on that exact position, but rather a minimax position 3 moves deep, so particular tactics can muddy some patterns in the current position. Still, plenty to learn, and fast.

The computer analysis also changes as it digs deeper. Sometimes it seems to be doing a depth first search. One time it wanted to take a pawn with its queen to promote its own in 6 moves, +17 for that side. I then told it to move the queen to a square that kept my pieces pinned down. It suddenly agreed and announced mate in 5.
