Computer level 4 too hard, 3 way too easy

Hi guys, this is my first post here, so I will jump right into it. The computer on level 3 is too easy to benefit from, blundering queens and rooks needlessly. But level 4 is way to hard... it seems to be a tactical god that just always knows the right move. Every once in a while I will get a draw, but the rest of the time it is just ridiculous. Why such a huge jump from one level to another?

Chill its hard for right now but later on like whenever you get way better the level 4 computer should be really easy to beat.

I agree.. level 4 is way too hard when you are learning... the op captured my feelings exactly! I've played about 400 games and won 3 times.

There's no substitute for playing against people. However, if you're looking for a computer opponent that adjusts to your playing level with more evened ability, get Shredder for Android. It will give you an estimated ELO rating and you can set the app to auto adjust to your strength level, or you can set the level anywhere you want for a given game. Shredder costs money, though, Chess.com computer is free, lol.

Thanks for the advice. Well I just bought Shredder and played... it gave me a 1600 ELO rating but I cannot beat the chess.com level 4 which claims to be level 1000. I think this further proves the issue.

Amen... we need a 3.5 for sure.  A nutless monkey could beat the computer on 3.  (I am not kidding, I tried to lose against it once and couldn't do it).

What makes it crazy is that it goes to level 10.  Can you imagine what level 10 is like?

Level 10 is brutal. I've beat level 8 but 10 is rated 2600. Way beyond my current ability but I still try occasionally.

Computer 3 Hard and Computer 4 Impossible or V3 computers?

I notice the same problem. The 800 strength is a massive joke - you can just dick around the entire time until you feel like winning, then the 1000 strength level is amazing, and regularly pulls off tactics that I NEVER see at my level (~1400 standard). The calibration has to be wrong. I just play the 1200 strength and it's easier. What a joke. Get the app calibration right. And I have to constantly be bombarded with messages anout PAYING to use chess.com? LOL no.

I just beat level 4 and I range around 1200 standard.

I find myself beating level 4 about 1/3 of the time. If I have time to sit and concentrate, and with nothing clouding my concentration, I can beat it more often than that. Probably a proper level of challenge to improve my chess.

Level 3 is only easy on the mobile phone application! On the website even level one is extremely hard. Far too hard for beginners like me! I wonder why the website and the mobile phone application are so very different in levels of hardness?

just get better
