Confirm Move for PC?

Sort:

Hello, On Mobile players have the option to confirm moves. This helps to prevent accidental moves or "miss clicks".

Where can I find the confirm move on PC? If there is no such option, might it be added sometime in the near future?

I occasionally lose valuable pieces due to accidentally clicking/dragging a piece I do not wish to move or dragging a piece I want to move to a square I don't want it to be moved to, so I would find this option pretty useful.

Confirm moveis is not available for Live chess on the website.

It doesn't exist for Live games.

Why it doesn't exist for live chess games?

L0chChessMonstar

As  asked above....WHY? Why doesn't it exist for the desktop?

It exists for live games on the phone, not sure what the difference between computer and phone are....except for the words we use to describe them (they're both computers)

justbefair

Why? Because of the size difference between most phones and most standalone computers.

Most phones are smaller and people often make mistakes when trying to enter moves on them.

Most computers have separate mouse devices for moving the cursor or pieces. This drastically cuts down on mistakes.

Now, mouse slips do happen, But they are fairly unusual unless one is playing extremely short time control chess.

If you had a "Confirm move" option, it would either slow down move entry for the people using it or it would have to function as a "takeback" option.

There are no takebacks in real chess.

Unless you're on mobile. And the whole point of a confirm move "OPTION" is that it is "OPTIONAL." Your reasoning that it would function as a "takeback" ability is silly, the site gives us the option to draw arrows and plan premoves, neither of which exist in real chess. Your arguments are bad. You're bad.

The topic says "Confirm move for PC".

The answer is given several times that it's not available for the website. People asked why that was.

We don't really know because chess.com doesn't usually explain its thinking.

I tried to make a guess about why that might be.

Evidently, that wasn't acceptable to you.

I am trying to understand your post. I guess you use the website in your phone.

They have two special apps for mobile users like you and both offer move confirmation. These are not good enough for you?

greenjay99

The move you make should be the one you intend. I find mouse slips happen too often on the website -- if you're dragging a piece you might let up just a bit too soon, or if you're clicking, you might click on a piece, then get lost in further thought, then accidentally come too close to trackpad with a warm finger and BOOM, you've moved, unintentionally. A confirmation button (or a simple double-tap-for-confirmation OPTION) would make the online experience way better. Nothing to do with a "take-back", so it's not violating the spirit of the physical pieces; it's just adapting the physical world to digital in a smarter way.

GeorgeWyhv14

I need the function just to double confirm my moves.

I would also like to have the confirm move option on PC. Absolutely ridiculous that it isn't an option. I miss click frequently, guess I'll just have to get used to it.

atx360cpl

It is idiotic that it doesn't exist on PC. Their explanations do not make sense. I won't sign up unless that is a feature? How about that as an inducement?

I think the issue here is that there is a "Confirm Move" option on Daily Chess that does not adversely impact anyone. The same type of functionality could be applied to Live Chess and not adversely impact anyone.

No harm. No foul. It's just an option.

Hmmm... it's available on the free-user-supported web site, but not the largest fee-for-service platform in the world?

Email support@chess.com and ask to have this feature implemented as an option for Live Chess on the website.

I do a lot of mouse slips on PC as well. There should be a confirm option.

I think there's an extension on Chrome that will do confirm for chess.com. It's called mcChessCom

I've mostly played on mobile thus far, and am playing on desktop/web version for the first time... and I'm not very good, but somehow clicked and made an incredibly stupid move like a sub-400 level player would make. I never intended for such a move, and there's no way to confim it? That's ridiculous!

mktpppr

This is why i dont play on chess.com. Beyond ridiculous and stupid to not have a STANDARD feature available for desktop. Utter nonsense. That is all.

play4fun64

In real time chess, the touch move rule is followed. Misclick and mouse drop is the player's fault. Haste makes waste.
