I live in China and I believe there is a lot of lag time probably due to filtering, here. It is vety annoying when I play bullet.

Is there any way to quantify these lag times? any suggestion which can cause shortening tis time would be highly appreciable!

tnx

RomyGer

Play Blitz instead of Bullet !

Thats what you do old man? deleting the question instead of resolving it?

Lou-for-you

Pal, i suggest that you tune it down and find a better a better internet service provider or so. The suggestion to play blitz when bullet does not work, is a valid one. Try a bit respect, punk.

You could try running the connection thru the onion-router. (ToR)

Other than that, dont live in china i guess.

Sorry, Amir, post 3, I'm not yet an old man ( still under 80 ), haha, and I did not delete the question, it's still there !

But I did resolve it, by finding a satisfactory way of dealing with a difficulty, even to help decide on a better system of playing fast chess.   I play Blitz and Bullet alternately, I know something about the differences.

There have been more forums on time lag and filtering, check your provider as well, and I hope that, instead of annoying and irritating, you play Blitz with the same pleasure !           Regards, Ger.

@RomyGer: my sincere appologies for wrong attitude. I hope you forgive.

@JariIkonen: would you be kind enough to elaborate a little bit a bout onion-router?

any link?

RomyGer

Yes Armitagh, Good Friends !  And just Google on TOR  or on The Onion Router, you will find a lot of info,  it has something to do with anonymous or so, it is also new for me.  Regards,  your Ol'man Ger (from 1934...)

Amir : I checked with friends, who's son and his family is living, for a long time already, in China, about connections by Skype and Whats-App, but also about internet connections between the Netherlands and China.

Their counter-question is : where do you live in China, in which region, who is your provider now etc., and perhaps they can help you further.

Will be continued... Regards, Ger.

RomyGer: Oh I live in shanghai, Yangpu area, ISP is Unicom which is famous here. I have been recommended to use VPN (virtual private network) which virtually connects me to somewhere in Europe and then from there I get connected to Chess.com.  It also helps to bypass any filtered website such as facebook.

Thank you RomyGer

I totally agree. The crappy internet is one of the least serious issues with living in China.

Play a  regular game of Chess==AnSmiled forget all the rest==Enjoy the game

Amir and others in China : further to posts 11 and 12 : I have got an answer from Tom, living in Beijing and I quote :

In terms of the VPN, it is best to select on that is closest to the connection of the "user" ( not the game-server  ).

It would therfore be advisable to utilise a VPN server in Korea or Japan ( I get amazing results on a China Unicom ADSL connection using the Japanese VPN servers from VPNNinja ).

Once you have managed that "last mile" of your connection well, the speed from the internet exchanges in Korea/Japan to wherever the game server is should be fine.

(...and he finishes with...) Hope it helps !  Unquote.

I have sent Tom a "thank you" and when you or somebody else might reply, I will let him know !

I think Konhidras, post 7, and macer 75, post 13, can benefit of these principles as well.            Regards, Ger, the Netherlands.

Actually, there is no lag playing chess on chess.com in China if u DO NOT try to jump over the Great FireWall.

But for most, the ability to play on Chess.com is less important than the ability to check facebook, twitter etc.

@RomyGer

VPNNinja  was a real good suggestion!  thanks again!
